AK2X Bio

At AI2NAt K1TTT

Most of my "Ham Activity" is taken up by my website. My fiancé Sarah (AK2D) and I run an Amateur radio supply website called HamParadise.com

You can find me active on local 2 meter repeaters, 20 meters, and 40 meters on the HF bands, SSB, RTTY, PSK. Also thru EchoLink. We are attempting to learn CW, but as of now, not to proficient.

I live in Tonawanda, NY USA with my fiancé Sarah (AK2D). Our community doesn't allow outside antennas so its relatively difficult to get on the air as much as we would like.

Our current HF Configuration is a ham stick dipole for 20 and 40. Also a SuperAntenna's MP-1 Screwdriver style vertical to cover other bands.  The rest of the shack consists of a Icom IC-718 HF Transciver, a MFJ Versa Tuner II, Kenwood TM-D700A (2m/440 w/TNC & APRS), Kenwood TR-7950 (2m for Simplex/Echolink), and various HT's. Currently all contacts are mobile/portable or with inside antennas.

Originally Licensed as KC2PNN April 2006, upgraded to my General Class at Dayton Hamvention 2007. And to Extra March of 2009 and applied for the Vanity call AK2X in April 2009.

I am an active member of the Rochester DX Assn. , Lancaster Amateur Radio Club (LARC), Erie County ARES/RACES.

We Recently had the oppertunity to operate in the CQ WW RTTY Contest with the team at K1TTT. It was an awesome experience.

My personal website is located at: http://www.bentownsend.com

Comments:

Thanks to AI2N for the use of his station. Was nice to see 10 open for a while. We weren't able to operate as long as we had hoped only managed about 22 hours between the two operators due to some family obligations. But all in all a good time.
